Genre(s): Teen & Young Adult, Coming of Age, Contemporary Fiction

Description: “Imagine J.D. Salinger, William Golding and Stephen King sitting down to write a fast-paced coming-of-age story set in a working class American neighborhood in the turbulent 1960s. A place where neighborhood boys routinely played baseball in the street; but also a place where, with one new arrival, they begin to discover the insignificance of their local intrigues compared to the realities and sometimes violent tribulations of life.

Albert Parker arrives in the neighborhood, bringing with him all the emotional scars and aggressive attitude a dysfunctional and abusive step-father could create. His struggle to fit in, and the stories of the other neighborhood children around him as he tries, create a fast-paced and powerful story about friendship, love and loss in the Vietnam era.

A new kid in the neighborhood. Family dysfunction. Murder, suicide and madness. You’ll find all that and more, in the fast-paced REICHOLD STREET, by R.L. Herron, a 2012 Readers Favorite Gold Medal Winner.”

Ron Herron

Ron Herron was born in Tennessee, but spent the vast majority of his life in Michigan. He earned a National Merit Scholarship and graduated from Monteith College, the former honors college at Wayne State University in Detroit, in 1970. He also earned an MBA from Michigan State.

He married his high school sweetheart right after graduation from WSU. She’s still the love of his life and they’ve been blessed with three wonderful sons and two grandchildren.

Over the years he’s worked for some of the world’s largest advertising agencies and enjoyed a long career in public relations, communications and marketing with a major Fortune 10 company.

Non-fiction publications produced during his professional career were recognized with several publishing awards, including Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), Gold and Silver MerComm Annual ARC Awards, and a “Best in Class” Award from the NAIA.

However, writing fiction has long been one of his secret passions. Submitting stories since he was a teenager, he collected innumerable rejection slips and a few of his efforts made it into print, but he didn’t really get started writing fiction full-time until he decided on an early retirement in 2008.

His debut novel, REICHOLD STREET, was a 2012 Readers Favorite Gold Medal Winner. His second book, ZEBULON, a collection of short stories, won the 2013 Readers Favorite Silver Medal in the Young Adult Fantasy genre. He also has a collection of general fiction short stories called TINKER.

An avid reader, He also enjoys all kinds of music, with a particular love for classic, bluesy rock. In his spare time, he works on his old Corvette, and loves reading to his grandchildren.
