One thing I’m slightly worried about — are you allowed to use copyrighted material in a promotional manner without paying royalties? I don’t know if simply giving credit to the artist is enough — I think you have to pay to use copyright songs. I don’t know for sure, of course, but you might want to look into it. I doubt Coldplay would bother suing an indie author, but you never know :S
Yeah – I hear ya’. I was half worried, half not, only because I have to redo the video once the book comes out. I’m playing with YouTube’s “Audioswap” feature to try and find something, but the feature itself is flawed. It would be easier if they just had a list of all the available music to look at. At the moment, YouTube won’t allow my video to be shown in certain countries (not sure which ones) because I can’t prove copyright. Most they can do is mute the audio on it.
great video has got me thinking now about the music quandary as lets face it classical music doesn’t work for every thing I do know a couple of musicians maybe I need to suck up to them and get some original music saved up
Yeah, so I was starting to get worried about the whole music copyright thing, until YouTube “recommended” this video to me -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8bDN5UIVyQ
It’s an entire album! And the publisher admits to having no rights whatsoever to any of the music – all with over half-a-million views! Yeah… definitely not worried now.
If all else fails, my stepfather is an accomplished guitarist, and I have a few friends that are very musically talented. On top of that, my son sings a pretty bad ass “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
